Well it’s happening…
Google has booted all the ad blockers from the Google Play store.
That’s good for us mobile marketers!
Or is it?
This is no surprise to those of you that watched my video about the future of Affiliate Marketing in 2016. (Above)
For those of you that haven’t watched it, I have a chat with a good buddy of mine, Ryan Gray.
One of the things I predicted was that advertising would be a tax on the poor aka anyone using Google.
I also mentioned Apple would push to allow ad blockers in their browser to try and force publishers to advertise their iOS app (where apple can make a profit)….which they have.
So why do I say this will be a tax on the poor?
Generally, only lower income families own Android devices.
What that means is slowly overtime, only poorer people will see your web ads.
The same ones that won’t be able to afford your product or service.
But it gets better:
Advertising in mobile apps, will become more competitive as less web inventory is available….
Meanwhile advertising on said apps will become more challenging for anyone that is an affiliate as Google looks to work with branders over “aggressive” affiliates.
That’s ok Brent, I’ll just run pop & redirect….
Apple users over time will use adblockers, which will kill off mobile pop-unders.
Much like what happened to the whole desktop pop-under space back in 2002-2004.
All while Google Chrome looks to flat out block any suspicious sites, claiming they phish your information or distribute malware. — You can thank your fellow “affiliate friends” for that one.
So what should you do?
Stop running shady Affiliate offers and start using your skills for something useful…
For those of you that have been really taking my advice over the last 2 years, will be just fine.
The rest of you?
Thank you for the nice smiley face sticker….
…btw cool blue vest.
